Celebrex

Active Ingredient: Celecoxib

Uses

Celebrex is prescribed to treat arthritis and its effects: pain, inflammation and swelling, tenderness and stiffness. Sometimes the medicine is used for other purposes. If you’re interested in details about the product, you may ask the doctor or your pharmacist.

How to use

It is taken as needed once or twice a day when the pain appears. The taking must be as it is prescribed in label. If you don’t understand some information, ask the doctor or pharmacist. You should not take it too often or in a great amount.

You may take Celebrex with or without food. You should take it with food if you have an upset stomach.

Celebrex works by reducing hormone called COX-2. As the scientists discovered there are 2 types of COX hormones in the organism, called COX-1 and COX-2. The COX-1 hormone causes the stomach and kidney problems. COX-2 hormone causes inflammation and pain.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), for example ibuprofen, reduce the COX-2 hormone and help to remove pain and inflammation. But they block the COX-1 hormone so the gastrointestinal side effects (such as ulcers) can occur.

COX-2 inhibitors such as Celebrex block only the COX-2 hormone that makes pain and inflammation much lower. And they don’t block the COX-1 hormone so they less cause gastrointestinal side effects.

Side Effects

It may cause stomach upset and tiredness. If it continues for a long time and get worse, consult the doctor immediately.

Some information

Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), for example ibuprofen, are often used in the USA. But they are producing serious health problems.

The scientists have discovered the cause of these problems. There are 2 types of COX hormones in our organism - COX-1 and COX-2. Their structure is similar but the COX-2 hormone causes the inflammation and pain and COX-1 causes the stomach and kidney problems. The NSAIDs effect on the COX-1 hormone and cause the stomach and kidney disease. COX-2 is contained in inflamed tissue. The COX-2 inhibitors are more effective as NSAIDs but don’t effect on the stomach and kidney.

Celebrex is NOT appropriate for everyone. If you have an allergy to sulfa medicine, don’t use Celebrex.
